Palette Talk
> How I spent my summer vacation...
Andre and I strongly believe in the virtues of living in gratitude and giving  from a thankful heart.   In spite of the world's current financial uncertainty, political turmoil and societal confusion, we know that we are abundantly blessed with family, friends, and opportunities to use our gifts and talents to serve others through causes that are dear to us.  So... how DID we spend our summer vacation?  Painting, of course!
The halls and walls of our Christian school were in desperate need of a face-lift before the start of the new school year.  Given the themes of "Sailing the C's of History" and "In God We Trust", our team set out to transform the cold, gray walls into works of art!  Five weeks later, here's a peek at the results...  10 vignettes (each 3' x 4') grace the hallway
depicting Biblical events from Creation to Christ's return.  The project also involved designing the high school entryway foyer and walls, and painting a 30 ft.  "stars and stripes" mural in the jr. high room.  Whew!
Thank you, Anna, Josh, Natalie, Elizabeth, Ben, Jon, Krista, Karen and Andre!

> What's in your "Painting Class Basket"?
Always be prepared!  Here's a helpful list of general supplies most often needed during class:
  * Brushes - carried in a protective carrier so their hairs are not bent
  * Paints and Mediums - appropriate for the project you are working on
  * All Purpose Water Base Sealer
  * Water bowl and paper towels
  * Tracing Paper - thin transparent paper for hand-tracing patterns
  * Transfer Paper - graphite, white or water-soluble Blue Chaco
  * Palette - disposable paper palette or foam plate (wet palette optional)
  * Pencil, stylus, art eraser, palette/painting knife, fine point art pen
  * Ruler - transparent plastic type is best
  * Tape - painters' masking tape or frosted "magic" tape is best
  * Notebook for taking notes and making worksheets
You'll discover that a little preparation and organization will provide less stress and more freedom to enjoy your time in class!

> What is "Decorative Painting"?
Tole and Decorative Painting, as defined by the Society of Decorative Painters, is a diverse art form that utilizes a variety of techniques and
media to decorate functional and nonfunctional surfaces.  The use of
either printed patterns or freehand designs allows a high degree of
success without academic training or drawing ability.  Contemporary decorative painting offers opportunities for artistic self-expression and creative satisfaction.

> We encourage all those interested in decorative painting to join the Society of Decorative Painters. Visit the Society of Decorative Painters website and join online!
