Li'l Spookies

"Li'l Spookies" Craft Project by Laure PaillexAutumn in New England is my favorite time and place!  I love everything about the season - the  warm colors, the rich natural textures, the spicy-sweet scents of fresh-baked pumpkin pies and fresh-picked apples, comfy jeans and sweaters and wool tweed jackets.  October and November are "harvest and thanksgiving celebration" months at our house. It is a special season of awareness of God's faithfulness and provision for all our needs (James 1:17). Take time to count your blessings! Be thankful!

Although our fall decorating centers around the "Harvest" theme instead of "Halloween", I saw a project in the current issue of Cloth-Paper-Scissors Magazine that inspired me to create these adorable "Li'l Spookies" using a few of the antique bottles I've collected over the years - Dr. True's Elixer, E. Lewis Pharmacy of Boothbay Harbor Maine, and a darling little toilette water bottle.  Of course, any small glass bottles would do - vinegars come in a delightful variety of shapes, colors and sizes.

  Be inventive!   Create!

Materials: old long neck bottle, 2 in. styro ball, jute twine, cheese cloth, a scrap of colorful printed paper, some punch-outs or trims, scissors, small tacks or brads for eyes, a low-temp glue gun.

Assemble: Cut 4 layers of cheese cloth into squares 7 in. to 8 in. sq. depending on the size of your bottle.  Place the styro ball onto the neck of the bottle (glue is optional).  Drape the cheesecloth over the styro "head", gather the cloth at the neck of the bottle and tie with a length of jute twine. (Make a bow knot or a "noose" as the mood strikes you.)

Make a Hat: Cut out a 4-inch square of printed scrap paper.  Roll it into a cone shape and cut off the excess paper to form the hat.  Fasten the seam and attach the hat to the head with hot glue.  Add trims such as leaf-shaped punch-outs, buttons, raffia, or little twigs at the base of the hat adhering them with the glue gun.  Push small tacks or brads into the head for eyes.  What fun!
